Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. Honoured with the “SMART BANANA FARM-TECH PROMOTION AWARD” by ICAR–NRCB

Tiruchirappalli, August 21, 2025 : Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. (JISL), a pioneering global leader in agri-tech innovations and sustainable farming solutions, has been conferred with the prestigious “SMART BANANA FARM-TECH PROMOTION AWARD” by the ICAR–National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB) during its 32nd Foundation Day-cum-Kisan Mela.

The ICAR–National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB), established on 21st August 1993 in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu under the aegis of ICAR, New Delhi, has been at the forefront of advancing banana and plantain cultivation in India. With a mission to enhance production and productivity through basic and strategic research, the Centre focuses on four major thrust areas: Crop Improvement, Crop Production, Crop Protection, and Post-Harvest Management. NRCB continues to strengthen Indias banana sector by integrating innovation, science, and sustainability.

This distinguished honour recognises Jain Irrigations outstanding and pioneering contributions to banana cultivation in India and across international markets. Over the decades, the company has created a silent green revolution in banana farming by introducing a transformative blend of high-quality tissue culture banana plants, advanced drip irrigation and fertigation technologies, and digital agriculture tools, including IoT-based monitoring systems and mobile-enabled irrigation management solutions.

Through these innovations, Jain Irrigation has strengthened the complete agri value chain—from farm to market—empowering millions of farmers with knowledge, access to technology, and improved market opportunities. This has not only enhanced productivity, resource efficiency, and sustainability but also improved farmers prosperity and the overall economic cycle.

Jain Irrigation is the only company to have introduced varieties of banana which are being exported and helping make banana cultivation a nationwide success story. In the year 2024–25 alone, farmers exported 759,760 metric tons of bananas, equivalent to nearly 36,500 containers, with Jains pioneering technologies playing a central role. Today, banana plants produced using Jain Irrigations solutions are recognised across global markets, further strengthening Indias standing as a competitive and reliable exporter.

At the heart of this achievement is the Jain Hi-Tech Plant Factory in Jalgaon, the worlds largest and most advanced tissue culture facility, widely acknowledged as a state-of-the-art plant factory. This world-class facility produces the largest number of tissue culture plants in the world, with over 150+ million banana plants produced annually, serving as the backbone for sustainable banana production in India and overseas.

Dr. Selvarajan, Director of NRCB, in his message for the award, said:
“Jain Irrigation has been in the forefront of tissue culture production of quality banana plants for a long time now, and coupled with their smart farming technologies like drip irrigation and fertigation with soil moisture sensors, has revolutionised the banana economy of the country. Their pioneering effort has led the country to become the leading banana nation in the world, improving farm incomes. Hence, the award to Jain Irrigation was a unanimous choice of the jury.”

Speaking on this recognition, K.B Patil, Sr Vice President at Jain Irrigation, said:
“We are deeply honoured to receive the Smart banana farm-tech promotion award from ICAR–NRCB. This award is a true reflection of our commitment to farmer empowerment, sustainability, and the continuous pursuit of innovation in agriculture. It belongs not just to Jain Irrigation, but to every farmer whose trust inspires us to redefine the future of farming.”

This award reaffirms Jain Irrigations vision of blending technology with tradition to create solutions that are affordable, reliable, sustainable, and export-oriented. With an unwavering focus on farmer-first innovation, the company continues to set new benchmarks in agri-tech, enabling farmers to grow smarter, greener, and more prosperous.
