You are here: Home - Company - - Bhavarlal H. Jain - Citation Bhavarlal H. Jain - CitationHumble beginnings:Born to a farming family in a tiny village, Mr. Jain secured degrees in Commerce & Law and was to become Gazetted Class I officer in the Maharashtra Civil Services. True to his leanings, however, he decided to take a small agency for light diesel oil needed by farmers for pumping of water as electricity was not available, with a family saving of Rs. 7,000/- in 1962. He then marketed principal requirements of farmers like seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, tractors and farm implements. Unique Contribution:Since 1978, he painstakingly promoted adoption of innovative PVC piping systems, replacing the outmoded, wasteful open - channel furrow irrigation or non-pressure cement piping practices. He then founded a Public Corporation, to pioneer Drip Irrigation and there by harbingered a new era for conservation of scarce water resources and also for achieving higher yields, early maturity, better quality and increase in cropping and irrigation intensity. Entering in the era of bio-technology, he introduced in 1993 a variety of Tissue Cultured Banana known as ‘Grand Nain’. This has multiplied the farmers’ yields, unfolding vast vistas for export of fresh banana fruit. Through these technological innovations, Mr. Jain has reached the hearts of millions of farmers across the country. The Fruit and Vegetable Processing Plants headed by him are completing the value chain for the farming community furthering the cause of upliftment of farmer. His zeal for conservation of natural resources and environment protection has also led to usher in harnessing largely untapped solar energy for Water Heating. A lasting symbol of Mr. Jain’s creativity and love for rural environment and ethos is the R & D and demonstration farm spanned over about 1000 acres. The farm is set up and supervised by him personally. It researches and demonstrates cost effective measures for Wasteland Development, Soil and Water Conservation, Green Houses, Fertigation, adoption of Bio-Pesticides and Bio-fertilisers for effective Farm Management and higher productivity for Agricultural, Horticultural and Forestry crops. Over 150,000 horticultural and agro-forestry trees have been planted during past four years alone. The farm is probably the only one of its kind for promoting hightech agriculture and providing training and awareness. Indeed, by heralding cutting-edge modern agricultural technologies such as Drip-Irrigation and Tissue Culture, he provided crucial assistance and impetus to an average tradition-bound Indian farmer leading him to self-reliance. He offers ‘Total Solution’ from Waste-land Reclamation to sustainable high-tech agriculture. An honest striving to enhance the GDP by helping advance the ‘Second Green Revolution’. Work Place / Field:He centered all his activities in predominantly agricultural and industrially backward sleepy town like Jalgaon. It falls in the rain shadow region of Western Ghats in the Deccan plateau. All the focussed activities which Mr. Jain has promoted, are impacted with high social content. They are in harmony with national priorities: Agriculture, Food processing, Export promotion, Resource conservation and Environment improvement. It is on this remarkable foundation that he and institutions led by him have interwoven themselves into the very fabric of the society which they stand to serve. Social ConscienceKeenly aware of his social responsibilities, Mr. Jain is heading many public charitable trusts which are engaged in the Medical, Educational, Cultural and Social fields. His craving for diversified social canvas and commitment had led him to adore prominent public positions as member of Electronics for Social and Rural Development (GoI), Development Panel for Plastic Processing Industry (GoI), National committee on Use of Plastics in Agriculture (GoI), and Second Water Commission (GoM). Honours & Awards:DSIR award for ‘R&D efforts in Technology absorptions’ and also for ‘R&D efforts in Agro-Industries Sector, AIPUB’s NALLA VAZHAI AWARD for ‘Outstanding contribution in popularising Drip and Fertigation in Banana Tissue Culture Plants’ and CFBP’s Jamnalal Bajaj ‘Fair Business Practices’ award are but a few recognitions of his untiring efforts and vision. Irrigation Association of USA, the prestigious Association of over 7000 Irrigation Industrial Houses around the world, has bestowed international Crawford Reid Memorial Award in 1997 on Mr. Jain ‘In recognition of his significant achievements in promoting proper irrigation techniques and in fostering major advancements in the industry, outside the United States’. He is the first Indian and second Asian to have received this award in past 20 years. Other personal National Awards include: FIE Foundation Award ‘for Innovation in Agriculture & Management’, IIIE’s Hon. Membership for ‘Professional Achievement and Eminence Recognised Nationally’. The Man:This earnest person symbolizes a character which is intensely Indian. His life is driven more by ideology. His reach extends far beyond creation physical assets. He is a very penetrating reader and vivid thinker. Commitment to rural upliftment through meaningful assistance is a part of his daily life. Three words characterise his life: land, library and laboratory. Achieving symbiosis between material development and promotion of environment is an ever-continuing passion for him. In so little a time, so much has been accomplished. One can see him, feel him and know him only through his monumental work. His stated Mission: “Leave this world better than you found it.” The man is as tall as his purpose. Mr. Jain's purpose is to earn a ‘pride of place’ for Indian Agriculture by augmenting yields and adding value. His purpose is to improve productivity and conserve resources with the help of technology. His faith is: Farm, Farming and the Farmer. His creations are attracting farmers & others not only from India but from different continents of the world. Mr. Jain and the enterprises led by him are a phenomenon, an inspiring institution in the field of Agriculture. He is lovingly called 'Bhoomi Putra' - Son of the Soil. |
